One of the simplest and best ways to measure liquid ingredients is to use a cup for thin liquids. These tend to work pretty well when you need to measure liquids such as juice, milk, water, or even oils.

One of the things that you may not know about measuring liquid cups is that they are available in either transparent plastic or glass and they all have markings on the sides that indicate volume in different measurement units.

When you want to use a liquid measuring cup to measure your liquid ingredients, the first thing that you need to do is to place it on a flat surface such as a table or the counter. Then, you can pour the liquid in until it reaches the amount that you need.

However, it is important to notice that sometimes, a baking recipe requires very little amounts of a liquid ingredient. Therefore, as you can imagine, using a liquid cup isn’t a solution. In these cases, you have different options:

  • Use A Measuring Tablespoon: When you are trying to measure less than a quarter cup of a thin liquid, then it is better to use a tablespoon. In order to do it, you should hold the spoon over a different bowl to catch any overflow and then simply gently pour in the liquid until it is full.
  • Use A Syringe: For very small volumes, a syringe may be exactly what you need. While it may seem intimidating, the reality is that the accuracy of the measurement is incredible. All you need to do is to fill it up to the desired volume line according to the package directions, then squirt the liquid into the recipe.

Sometimes, when you are baking, you need to use ingredients that are thick or sticky. Just think of molasses and honey, for example. In these cases, you will be better off measuring these substances using the same liquid cup. However, before you fill it with this ingredient, you need to spray it with cooking oil.

Some ingredients are trickier to measure than others. Just think of yogurts, for example. The truth is that they can’t be compared to water but they aren’t also thick to use a measuring dry cup. However, in these cases, the latter option is the best one.

When you need to measure a yogurt, the best thing you can do is to pack in the yogurt, using the back of a spoon to press it down firmly.
